WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) - Police say a 16-year-old Massachusetts boy is in custody in connection with the stabbing of two university graduate students in a home across the street from an elementary school.

Waltham police say they responded to a home at about 1:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a stabbing. The home is near the Stanley Elementary school and near the Brandeis University campus.

The female victims, who “had been stabbed repeatedly,” were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Brandeis says the victims are graduate students at the college.

The suspect was arrested a few hours later after he was spotted “covered in blood” trying to break into a car.

No names were released.

The elementary school opened as scheduled.
