NORWAY, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say they’ve recovered the body of a woman buried in the backyard of a home in the town of Norway.

Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says an autopsy will be conducted Wednesday on the remains of the woman, believed to be in her 80s. He said the woman likely died in the past 12 to 18 months and may have lived in a mobile home on the property.

The medical examiner’s office will provide a positive identification, along with cause of her death.

It’s unclear what led investigators to the property on Tuesday.

State police were assisted by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, Norway police, Maine Department of Transportation, and the medical examiner’s office.
