New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to undergo thumb surgery Monday, sidelining him for six weeks, according to multiple reports.

Brees suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb on his throwing hand in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The 40-year-old stayed in Los Angeles to meet Monday with a hand specialist.

With Brees out, Teddy Bridgewater will become the Saints’ starting quarterback. The former Minnesota Vikings starter went 17 of 30 for 165 yards Sunday after subbing for Brees.
