KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 12 years in Oregon state prison for killing a Washington state woman at a construction site while he was drunk driving.
The Tri-City Herald reported Tuesday that 77-year-old Leman Bledsoe was convicted of eight crimes, including manslaughter, DUI, reckless driving, and failing to assist the victim.
Authorities say Bledsoe was drunk when his minivan struck 49-year-old construction worker Tyresa Monaghan of Kennewick, Washington.
Police say Bledsoe struck Monaghan after sideswiping a car Monaghan had flagged to a stop at the site in Athena, Oregon.
Bledsoe crashed into another car while attempting to flee and a construction worker blocked his vehicle with a water tanker until police arrived.
Monaghan died at the scene.
Ten years of Bledsoe’s sentence is a mandatory minimum for manslaughter.
