KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - The wife of a Washington state county sheriff has filed for divorce and a temporary protection order after she says she is a victim of domestic violence.
The Tri-City Herald reported Monday that 50-year-old Monica Hatcher accused her 56-year-old husband and Benton County Sheriff Jerry Hatcher of strangling her and making threats during a fight about an extramarital affair.
Monica Hatcher represented by lawyer Pat Chvatal filed for divorce Sept. 18 and filed for a temporary protection Friday asking her husband be required to surrender all dangerous weapons.
Jerry Hatcher represented by attorney Mason Pickett says he “emphatically” denies the allegations.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the allegation.
A court hearing to address a permanent order and Jerry Hatcher’s ability to carry guns is set for Oct. 15.
