SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - One of Georgia’s public colleges is working on a proposal to add degrees in sustainability.
Georgia Southern University already has a Center for Sustainability that works to raise environmental awareness at the school’s campuses in Statesboro and Savannah.
University Provost Carl Reiber says faculty are now planning courses for undergraduate and potentially graduate degrees in sustainability. He tells WTOC-TV : “There are great jobs in sustainability areas, and we want to make sure that we’re training students for that next generation of jobs.”
New degree offerings must first be approved by the Board of Regents, which governs Georgia’s public universities.
Reiber says plans for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sustainability could be unveiled sometime next year.
