WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman and her 19-year-old daughter have filed a lawsuit alleging an off-duty state police sergeant was intoxicated when he drove his unmarked cruiser through a stop sign and smashed into their car.
Lisa Conroy, of Middlebury, and her daughter, Madison, sued Sgt. John McDonald, state police and a local bar Thursday in Waterbury Superior Court. They’re seeking an undisclosed amount of damages for the injuries they suffered.
A message seeking comment was left for McDonald.
State police say they continue to investigate the Sept. 25 accident in Southbury and are looking into whether McDonald drank alcohol at a retirement party for a fellow trooper at a brewery before the crash.
Officials have said McDonald wasn’t given a sobriety test because he had to be taken to a hospital.
