WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Southern California church has been destroyed by a raging pre-dawn fire despite the efforts of dozens of firefighters.

Inspector Sean Rios of the Los Angeles County Fire Department says firefighters are bringing in heavy equipment to locate any remaining hotspots within the rubble of the Good Shepherd Family Bible Church in Whittier.

Rios says the blaze’s cause is under investigation but it is not believed to be related to any wildfires.

The blaze was reported shortly after 4 a.m. and firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames.

Rios says one patient was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries; no one was inside the church when firefighters searched it.
