BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The University of Vermont is holding a formal installation ceremony for its new president.

The event takes place Thursday at 1 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel.

Suresh Garimella (Sir-ESH Gare-eh-MELL-ah) is UVM’s 27th president. He will speak and give his vision for the school. People who have worked with him will also speak, including France Cordova, the director of the National Science Foundation.

Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy and Gov. Phil Scott are also giving remarks.

Garimella started in his new role in July. He came from Purdue University in Indiana where he was executive vice president for research and partnerships and a professor of mechanical engineering. He replaced Thomas Sullivan who stepped down to finish a book.
