BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A judge has ruled Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration must turn over documents involving sexual harassment allegations that forced an ex-Edwards aide to resign two years ago.
But WAFB-TV reports the administration doesn’t have to release the information until after the Democratic incumbent’s Nov. 16 runoff election against Republican opponent Eddie Rispone.
A Republican-financed, anti-Edwards group called Truth in Politics has been running an ad featuring Juanita Washington, who claims Johnny Anderson groped and assaulted her. Anderson left the Edwards administration in 2017. A taxpayer-financed settlement was reached. Anderson denies wrongdoing.
The Truth in Politics-supported lawsuit accused the governor’s office of dragging its feet in turning over public records, including texts and emails, involving the allegations.
Judge Wilson Fields gave Edwards’ attorneys until Nov. 22 to provide the documents.
