BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Jury selection is continuing in a Vermont courtroom for a man charged with first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of a man in Montpelier.
Thirty-two-year-old Jayveon Caballero pleaded not guilty to the charge that he shot and killed Markus Austin hours after the two men were involved in a fight in Barre.
The Times Argus reports about 80 potential jurors waited at the Barre courthouse on Wednesday while prosecutors and Caballero’s attorney questioned them. Eleven potential jurors were excused.
Jury selection was due to resume Thursday, with opening statements expected after the jury is in place.
If convicted, Caballero could be sentenced to life in prison.
