The NFL fined Washington Redskins tight end Jeremy Sprinkle $84,231 for two instances of unnecessary roughness in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, reports said.
The first of the two hits came in the second quarter after Sprinkle made a reception. He lowered his head and made helmet-to-helmet contact with Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes. The play wasn’t flagged, but Rhodes wound up being evaluated for a concussion.Â

For that hit alone, Sprinkle was docked $56,156, which ESPN said was the largest fine for a single play in 2019.
Sprinkle’s base salary this year is $645,000, and the fines assessed to him are equivalent to more than two of Sprinkle’s game checks.
