WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island have released the name of the man struck and killed by a cruiser earlier this week.

Warwick police chief Col. Rick Rathbun in a statement Wednesday identified the man struck just after 11 p.m. Monday as 25-year-old Brian Adams, a city resident. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police previously said Adams “ran into the path of the marked police vehicle.”

The cruiser was driven by Officer Thomas Paine, who has been with the Warwick police since 2017. Police have said a preliminary investigation found no evidence the officer was impaired, speeding or distracted.

The death remains under investigation.

Adams’ sister, Amanda Adams, said her brother had a 6-year-old daughter.
