Morgantown police: reports of school threats not credible

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Morgantown police say they investigated reports of planned violence at a local middle school and found no credible threats.

According to a news release from Police Chief Ed Preston, officers investigating the threats found that there was a disturbance on Thursday involving two children at South Middle School. It was handled by the administration and school resource officer during school hours. But later in the evening, the story of the disturbance became embellished as it spread on social media.

The posts being shared between students and adults resulted in a report to law enforcement.

Preston says that despite the lack of a credible threat, additional officers will be present at Morgantown schools on Friday.
