PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former state lawmaker in Rhode Island who acknowledged lying to investigators about his residency will be released early from home confinement.
The state Department of Corrections says 57-year-old John Carnevale will be released Monday instead of May 22 after he earned 72 days of “good time.”
An attorney for the former Democratic state representative says he did everything he was supposed to do and stayed out of trouble.
Carnevale was sentenced to five years, with nine months to serve on home confinement, after he pleaded no contest to felony perjury.
Prosecutors say Carnevale spent most of his time in a home he owned in Johnston instead of the Providence district he represented.
Carnevale represented the district from January 2009 to January 2017.
