PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island lawmaker has been elected chairman of the New England Board of Higher Education.
The Rhode Island General Assembly said Friday that Democratic Rep. Joseph McNamara, of Warwick, was elected chairman of the board at the organization’s annual spring meeting at Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts.
McNamara is the chairman of the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare.
He says it’s an honor to be chosen to lead during the challenging times ahead. He says he’ll prioritize opportunities for adult learners, cost-savings opportunities, aligning the K-12 and post-secondary education systems and articulating the public value of postsecondary education.
The New England Board of Higher Education promotes education opportunities and services for New England residents and its colleges and universities.
