Now that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has ended, the majority of Americans now advise Democrats in Congress to drop their fixation on possible Russian collusion and “move on to other issues,” a new CBS News poll said.

It found that 58 percent of the public should “drop” their concerns about the matter and get on with the nation’s legislative business; 89 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 31 percent of Democrats agree.

A majority — 54 percent — of all Americans also agree that the the Mueller investigation was “politically motivated,” an opinion shared by 79 percent of Republicans, 54 percent of independents and even 33 percent of Democrats.



Meanwhile, the investigation itself sparked emotional reactions:

• 42 percent of Americans are “pleased” by the findings of the investigation; 69 percent of Republicans, 39 percent of independents and 23 percent of Democrats agree.

• 39 percent overall are “relieved”; 63 percent of Republicans, 36 percent of independents and 23 percent of Democrats agree.

• 28 percent overall are “disappointed”; 14 percent of Republicans, 21 percent of independents and 50 percent of Democrats agree.

• 15 percent overall are “angered”; 9 percent of Republicans, 10 percent of independents and 28 percent of Democrats agree.

The CBS News poll of 1,002 U.S. adults was conducted March 25-26 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
