BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Buckeye police officer is hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle.

Police say the crash occurred about 1 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Verrado Way and Indian School Road.

They say the 35-year-old officer was responding to a medical emergency call at a local elementary school when his motorcycle collided with a Jeep.

Buckeye Fire Department crews responded to the scene and treated the officer, who was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital.

The driver of the Jeep escaped injury.

The name of the officer hasn’t been released, but police say he’s been with the department for 9½ years.
