LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas attorney has pleaded guilty to a felony charge for allowing her clients to use cellphones while in jail.
Attorney Alexis Plunkett pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of possession of a telecommunication device by a prisoner, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported .
The charge stems from Plunkett’s jail visits to two former clients. Plunkett said the cellphone was used to make calls regarding bail, which she believed she was authorized to do.
Her guilty plea comes after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. The agreement is a “good resolution for all sides involved,” said Adam Solinger, Plunkett’s lawyer.
“It’s the choice that she made that’s best for her, and I respect that,” Solinger said. “Ultimately it came down to being tired of continued litigation. Fighting a war on two fronts takes a toll on you, and remaining in custody pending your trial and resolution of your other case is really hard to do.”
As part of the agreement, prosecutors have dropped charges of bribing or intimidating a witness, and dissuading or preventing a person from testifying. Plunkett was accused of calling a woman involved in a separate case last year a “snitch” and a “rat” on Facebook, according to the criminal complaint.
The 38-year-old attorney is also expected to lose her law license in Nevada. Plunkett could eventually practice law in another state, Solinger said.
Plunkett is scheduled to be sentenced in May. Prosecutors are not expected to recommend prison time.
