NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say an employee of a Connecticut company that builds submarines for the Navy threatened to “go full blown genocide” and kill four co-workers.
The Day reports that Edward Lesniak, of Coventry, Rhode Island, had his bond increased to $500,000 at his arraignment Thursday on charges including first-degree threatening.
Police say the 39-year-old Lesniak made several threats recently via text message to co-workers at Groton-based General Dynamics Electric Boat.
In one, he allegedly wrote “I’m ready to kill.”
He was arrested at a New York airport when he arrived from Scotland last Saturday.
Coventry police seized a .50 caliber rifle, a shotgun and multiple handguns from his home.
Lesniak’s attorney says the texts were to a friend and “The question of whether or not it’s a true threat is very much at issue.”
