FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have ruled that the death of a homeless man found on fire in Flagstaff last December was a suicide.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office told the Arizona Daily Sun that 66-year-old Ben Iravani had a medical history of schizoaffective disorder with a history of prior suicide attempts.

Flagstaff police cite evidence found at the scene on Dec. 19 hinted toward the possibility of a suicide.

Authorities say there were two empty plastic containers that reportedly smelled of gasoline found near Iravani’s body in addition to a lighter.

The medical examiner’s office says Iravani suffered burns over half of his body.

Police responded to a call of a fire in a lot between a city park and businesses and saw a man later identified as Iravani consumed by flames.
