HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hopes of reaching a last-minute deal with Connecticut’s two federally recognized tribes on a wide-ranging gambling bill are waning.
But House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz (ehr-eh-SIM’-oh-wits) says he’s not giving up on reaching a compromise before the General Assembly’s midnight adjournment deadline on Wednesday.
While the Democrat said Tuesday the task is “proving to be as difficult as I thought it was, going into it,” he believes there’ still a chance and notes “things happen in wild ways” in the final days of the session.
Both Aresimowicz and Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont have attempted to reach a deal that encompasses sports betting, internet gambling and a possible Bridgeport casino, while not jeopardizing an existing casino revenue-sharing agreement with the tribes.
Aresimowicz says he’d be open to addressing the issue during a special session.
