PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say they arrested a woman who drove the wrong way for nearly a dozen miles (19 kilometers) on two Phoenix-area freeways, forcing motorists to swerve out of her way.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety told media outlets that the wrong-way driver was reported at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday.
The agency’s traffic cameras showed a car heading the wrong direction on State Route 51 and on the Loop 101 when traffic was light. Other drivers had to take evasive action to get out of the car’s way.
A DPS helicopter followed the driver and a trooper on the ground got close enough to get her attention.
DPS officials say the car was stopped in Scottsdale and the unidentified driver was arrested for driving impaired.
