JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court said Friday it won’t review the case of the only woman Mississippi’s death row, whose capital murder convictions were overturned by federal judges and reinstated by an appeals court.
Lisa Jo Chamberlin was convicted in 2006 in the deaths of two people in Hattiesburg in 2004.
Chamberlin is white, and her attorneys challenged the prosecution’s striking of some black prospective jurors. When the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated her convictions in March, a judge said prosecutors gave race-neutral reasons for doing so.
Chamberlin was not released from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility during appeals. No execution date has been set.
The victims were killed after arguing with Chamberlin and her then-boyfriend. Their bodies were stuffed into a freezer and taken to Kansas.
