SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for strangling another man to death.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that 31-year-old Daniel Davenport was sentenced Thursday. He was convicted last month of second-degree murder, vehicle theft and fraud.

Authorities say Davenport met 55-year-old Sergio Hostins online last October and arranged to meet at Hostins’s Sarasota apartment. His body was found several days later at a Naples construction site. Davenport became a suspect when investigators found his fingerprint in Hostins’s SUV. Davenport was eventually arrested in Orlando.

Davenport, who represented himself, insists he didn’t kill Hostins and accuses prosecutors of lying and cheating.
