BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The University of Vermont will be getting about $2 million back after improperly coded water meters caused the city of Burlington to overcharge the school.
The Burlington Free Press reports that the city council on Monday unanimously approved the payment.
City workers had found irregularities in meter readings at a dormitory complex in November of 2017. The director of Burlington’s Department of Public Works says the problem was caused by installers mismatching identification numbers on the devices.
Several other institutional and business-scale meters had similar problems and some underreported customer use.
The head of the city’s Division of Water Resources say the division has reserve cash to pay back UVM.
