TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A former Tucson police officer who pleaded guilty to attempted unlawful sexual conduct has avoided jail time and been sentenced to three years of probation.
Richard Daniel was sentenced Monday in Pima County Superior Court.
Tucson TV station KGUN reports Daniel has been ordered to participate in sex offender treatment, but he isn’t required to register as a sex offender.
Court documents show Daniel asked a woman he was investigating for sexual favors in January.
The woman had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and reportedly agreed to the sexual favor to avoid going to jail.
According to court documents, the sex act took place at the woman’s apartment and evidence was found there that matched Daniel’s DNA.
Tucson police say Daniel, a three-year veteran, was fired after his arrest.
