HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont’s office will soon begin looking for a new Consumer Counsel.
The Democrat says the current Consumer Counsel, Elin Swanson Katz, has decided to leave her position effective July 5. He says she plans to work on the issue of improving broadband access.
The Office of Consumer Counsel is an independent state agency that represents customers of the state’s five regulated utilities - electric, gas, water, telephone and some cable TV matters that go before Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority or PURA. The office represents consumer interests in other forums regarding public utility matters.
Swanson Katz has held the job for nearly eight years, first appointed by former Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. She says the job has been the “privilege of my career.”
