YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - A former Youngstown State University professor and radio host who died last year has left $2.2 million to the Ohio school.
A university news release says the late Charles Darling was a retired history professor and longtime host of the “Folk Festival” radio program on WYSU-FM. He left the gift to establish an endowed faculty position at the university.
University officials say the Charles Darling Distinguished Faculty Chair in American Social History will be a full professor position.
A release from the university says the gift is part of Youngstown State’s $100 million “We See Tomorrow” fundraising campaign.
Darling, who died in July at the age of 86, was a native of Massachusetts. He retired from the university in 1995.
His program on WYSU celebrated its 48th season in 2018.
