HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A Montana man died in a crash after a deer ran in front of an all-terrain vehicle on U.S. Highway 12 near Townsend.

Broadwater County Sheriff Wynn Meehan tells the Independent Record that 67-year-old Michael Allen Brenner died at the Broadwater Health Center of injuries suffered in the collision at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Meehan says Brenner and a female passenger were riding the ATV about a mile east of Townsend when a deer attempted to run across the road. Meehan believes they collided with the deer mid-jump.

Meehan says the woman suffered minor injuries and was released from the health center Saturday night. Neither was wearing a helmet.
