HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities in Hartford say officers fatally shot the driver of a car who charged police after fleeing a traffic stop.
The Hartford Courant reports the shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. Friday at an Interstate 84 ramp near Capital Avenue. Police say they tried to stop the car nearby but the driver fled to the I-84 ramp, which was blocked by traffic.
Police say the driver got out and attacked an officer who was approaching the car. Police opened fire after it appeared the driver gained control of an officer’s gun.
The driver’s identity has not been released. A passenger in the car was not taken into custody.
Authorities say the shooting was captured on three police body cameras. Mayor Luke Bronin said he’s pushing to have the footage publicly released.
