YAZOO CITY, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi man is pleading guilty to murder in a businessman’s 2013 death.

WLBT-TV reports Johnny Mack Brown pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder, armed robbery, possession of a gun by a convicted felon and criminal conspiracy. He was sentenced to 26 years in prison.

Brown says he and his wife lured 56-year-old Ricky Saxton to a rural road near Benton, falsely claiming they wanted to sell Saxton a car. There, Brown tried to rob Saxton and shot him multiple times in the back of the head when Saxton tried to run. Brown says he sought to rob Saxton because he needed rent money.

A judge declared a mistrial in Brown’s first trial, determining the defense hadn’t received an investigator’s report.

A new trial was scheduled to begin Monday.
