PROSSER, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say two children have died after they were pulled from a burning mobile home in Prosser Thursday.
The Tri-City Herald reports a 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were asleep and alone in the home after their parents left about 4:45 a.m. for work.
Benton County Sheriff Jerry Hatcher says neighbors saw the fire just before 6 a.m. and pounded on the door to see if anyone was home. Hatcher says they tried to open a door, and break open windows, but they couldn’t get inside.
Hatcher says firefighters found the children and performed CPR on the girl but she could not be revived.
He says the boy was taken to Prosser Memorial where he later died.
Hatcher says initial investigation indicates a baby sitter should have been with the children.
