EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A Washington state man is accused of hitting and killing a man with his car after authorities say the men were involved in a series of encounters that escalated to violence.
The Daily Herald reports 22-year-old Jesse Engerseth pleaded not guilty Monday to second-degree murder.
Prosecutors say the Arlington man intentionally ran over 32-year-old Michael Smith, who died at a hospital after suffering severe head injuries.
According to court documents, Engerseth told authorities that Smith had approached his car and banged on the door with what appeared to be a handgun.
He said he later retaliated by throwing an auto jack at Smith’s car.
The documents say that Engerseth later hit Smith with his car after Smith started approaching him while carrying a stick.
