GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A Montana utility is drawing down the level of a reservoir near Great Falls to repair a dam that was damaged by flood debris.
Northwestern Energy representatives said the drawdown on Black Eagle Reservoir would begin Monday and continue Tuesday. The water will be lowered about 5 feet.
Repair work is scheduled to take place Wednesday and the reservoir is expected to be re-filled by Friday morning.
The public was asked to avoid the riverbed during the work because of safety hazards.
The dam was damaged when flooding in late May along the Dearborn and Sun rivers sent large debris downstream into the dam.
Black Eagle Dam is located about two miles downstream of Great Falls on the Missouri River. Its hydroelectric plants generate up to 21 megawatts of electricity.
