Trevor Rosenthal makes debut for Tigers

Trevor Rosenthal is back in the majors. 

After a disastrous stint with the Washington Nationals, Rosenthal made his debut with the Detroit Tigers on Monday after getting called up earlier that day. And in true Rosenthal-like fashion, the reliever was erratic. But this time at least, he was effective. 

Rosenthal struck out two batters and didn’t allow a run in Monday’s game against the Cleveland Indians, though he wasn’t perfect by any means: 

Trevor Rosenthal threw a pitch behind Tyler Naquin and a wild pitch off the backstop, but finished off a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, the last on a 99 mph fastball past Carlos Santana.

Coming off Tommy John surgery, Rosenthal has struggled to regain the form that made him a top reliever with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals signed Rosenthal to a one-year, $7 million contract in November — only for him to be released in June.

Rosenthal posted a 22.74 ERA with the Nationals in 12 appearances. He even had an infinity ERA through his first four outings.
