HAYS, Kan. (AP) - Authorities say three railway cars carrying ethanol derailed in Hays, causing officials to evacuate a handful of homes as a precaution.

The Hays Post reports that no one was hurt when the cars jumped the tracks Sunday afternoon. And Hays public information officer Kim Rupp says the public wasn’t in danger because there were no leaks.

But fire officials set up a 300-foot (91.4 meter) perimeter around the area in the immediate aftermath, shutting down a few roads near downtown. Pictures showed that one of the cars was on its side.
