KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - Catholic Charities Eastern Washington wants to build a 50-unit apartment building in Pasco, Washington, to serve the area’s most vulnerable residents - those who have been homeless for a year or longer.

The Spokane-based religious organization is teaming with Pasco’s Hot Spotters and other local agencies to tackle the challenge of serving a population that consumes high levels of emergency care.

The Tri-City Herald reports that Catholic Charities would like to break ground next year and open the unnamed project by mid-2021.

Catholic Charities operates similar “housing first” apartments in Spokane and Walla Walla, with more due to open this year.
