ARLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say an Arlington man who was wounded after exchanging gunfire with two troopers is facing attempted murder and aggravated assault charges.

Police said Tuesday that an arrest warrant has been issued for 40-year-old Matt Novick, who’s being treated for gunshot wounds at an Albany, New York, hospital. Authorities said he was in critical, but stable condition. He’s expected to be arrested when he is discharged. It’s unknown whether he has a lawyer.

State police received a 911 on Monday from a relative of Novick who said Novick was having a mental health crisis.

Troopers said after they arrived, Novick walked down the driveway and fired in their direction. They said they took cover behind a cruiser and fired back. Novick was hit multiple times.
