SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - A higher education administrator is advocating a program to help adults in Wyoming return to college for workforce training.
The Sheridan Press reports that Northern Wyoming Community College District President Paul Young advocates the state creating a need-based statewide program for adult returning students.
Young gave the hypothetical example of an electrician wanting to receive additional certification without having to take general college credits like English and math.
Sheridan College wouldn’t receive funding for that potential student, though, because the classes would be considered non-credit learning. Thus, the college would likely not accept the electrician because of the lack of financial incentive to do so.
It’s uncertain exactly how receptive state lawmakers would be to the idea.
