MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding waterfowl hunters to remove hunting blinds from state waters of Lake Champlain.
The deadline is Feb. 15 for removing such blinds, which hunters use to shield themselves from animals. Meanwhile, hunters have until May 15 to take down blinds on inland waters.
The department says state law requires removal of the blinds before these deadlines in order to protect natural areas and to prevent boating accidents after the ice melts.
State Game Warden Colonel Jason Batchelder says removal of the blinds and any posts that may be below the surface of the ice is important because of the danger they present when boaters are on the water in the spring.
