Suspended firefighter told police he was doing cocaine

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island firefighter has been suspended after he told police he was doing cocaine in a parking lot.

South Kingstown police say they currently have a warrant out for the arrest of Pawtucket firefighter Michael Kilmartin.

WPRI-TV reports that Pawtucket Fire Chief William Sisson immediately suspended the 32-year-old Kilmartin. Attempts to contact Kilmartin were unsuccessful.

Police say Kilmartin was found Jan. 5 in the parking lot of a South Kingstown liquor store sitting in his car with his pants around his ankles. He had been there for several hours.

He at first told police at first he was “not doing anything shady” and denied using drugs.

Police say a search of his vehicle turned up white powder, which he allegedly told police was cocaine.
