NEW ORLEANS (AP) - One of the sons of New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson has been arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery.
News outlets report that a police report states 21-year-old Shane Ferguson has been is accused of punching a woman in the head and spitting in her face last week.
Ferguson’s arrest Tuesday came hours after his father became the new head of the police department.
A report says Shane Ferguson and the woman argued Jan. 18. The report said the two had dated about two years before the relationship ended last month.
Ferguson has pleaded not guilty.
Police spokesman Andy Cunningham said Chief Ferguson said the department will conduct a proper and complete investigation of the case.
Shaun Ferguson replaced Michael Harrison, who is the new police commissioner in Baltimore.
