Washington’s best-known socialist will be helping regulate America’s banks.

The Hill reported Tuesday evening, citing a “Democratic source,” that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, will join the House Financial Services Committee, which oversees U.S. financial institutions and markets.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described socialist who has called for a 70 percent top tax rate, told The Hill in November that she had asked the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which distributes the party’s committee seats, for a seat on the Financial Services panel.

An official announcement of the panel’s membership could come later Tuesday evening, the Hill reported.

The panel will be chaired by Rep. Maxine Waters, California Democrat.
