PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say driver impairment may have been a factor in a collision that left one person dead and another critically injured.
Sgt. Armando Carbajal says the crash happened Sunday just before 3 a.m. near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road.
According to investigators, 39-year-old Saturino Santoyo was driving his Dodge Avenger when it crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle.
A truck traveling behind the second vehicle then crashed into it.
Firefighters responding to the scene pronounced Santoyo dead.
A 33-year-old male passenger in the second car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver’s injuries were minor.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Carbajal says the investigation remains ongoing.
