PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - President Donald Trump’s pick for the top federal prosecutor in Rhode Island has been sworn in.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Rhode Island says Aaron Weisman took the oath of office Monday. Trump announced Weisman’s nomination in October and the U.S. Senate confirmed him Jan. 2.
Weisman replaces acting U.S. Attorney Richard Myrus. Myrus assumed the role after U.S. Attorney Stephen Dambruch stepped down to take a position in the state attorney general’s office.
Weisman had served as the state’s assistant attorney general and the chief of the state attorney general’s criminal appeals unit. He had worked in the attorney general’s office since 1993.
He says he’s humbled to have received the president’s nomination and grateful for support from Rhode Island’s two Democratic senators, Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.
