House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler said Tuesday he’s seeking to subpoena acting Attorney General Matthew G. Whitaker ahead of his scheduled testimony on Friday.
The New York Democrat has asked the committee to authorize a subpoena to compel testimony, if necessary.
“In an abundance of caution —- to ensure that Mr. Whitaker both appears in the hearing room on Friday morning and answers our questions cleanly — I have asked the Committee to authorize me to issue a subpoena to compel his testimony,” said Mr. Nadler said in a statement.
Mr. Whitaker has agreed to testify before the committee, which will ask him about his decision not to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe and if he’s talked to President Trump about the investigation.
