PORT PENN, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a juvenile member of a Delaware fire company is facing felony charges after an arson that destroyed one historic building and damaged another.
The state fire marshal’s office says the Port Penn Fire Company responded to a fire on the Fort DuPont Nature Trail in Port Penn shortly before midnight Monday. Authorities say a building known as the Cleaver Muskrat Shack was destroyed, and that a second building, known as the Floating Cabin, was damaged.
Officials say the buildings date back to the 1850s and were the last known structures of their kind.
Investigators charged a 17-year-old member of the Port Penn Fire Company with arson, attempted arson and felony criminal mischief. His name wasn’t released.
He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance to his parents.
