BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Attorneys for a group of logging opponents have pushed for an injunction against a timber sale southeast of Bozeman, arguing the state set unfair terms for the auction.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports attorneys for Save Our Gallatin Front urged a Gallatin County judge on Tuesday to block the Limestone West Timber Sale, a 443-acre (179-hectare) project the state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation proposed for school trust lands.
The group filed a lawsuit last month after the Montana Land Board decided to move forward with the project, leaving open the option for opponents to bid on a 25-year deferral of logging.
The group argues the conservation license buyers should pay the state only for lost interest income.
The agencies argue state law calls for a bidding war.
