MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont health officials say there have been about 20 outbreaks of the flu this season statewide, and they are expecting the number to rise.
State epidemiologist Patsy Kelso says a recent rise in flu cases is typical and will likely continue over the next few weeks. Vermont Public Radio reports the latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate there have around 10 million people nationally who were sickened by the flu this season.
Kelso says flu season typically peaks in either February or March. Kelso says those hoping to avoid the flu should wash their hands, cover coughs and get flu shots.
